1. Take a shower using anti-bacterial type soaps to decrease the amount of bacteria that may be on your skin
2. Try to eat as much of a balanced diet as possible to ensure proper nutrition which will help you
3. Stop smoking at least 30 days before your surgery
4. Avoid shaving or cutting of any kind around the area where you’ll be having surgery
5. Make sure you tell your doctor, anesthesiologist, etc of all the medications you may be taking, this is extremely important
6. Do NOT eat or drink anything after midnight before your operation…including water, gum, etc
7. Bring in all paperwork your doctor has given you, i.e. X-rays, documents, etc
8. Make sure you leave all of your jewelry at home
9. If you wear contact lenses, remove them and leave them at home
10. Glasses, hearing aides and dentures will need to be removed prior to surgery
11. Aside from what you may need for payment purposes, It’s best to leave money and other valuables at your house so they can’t be lost or stolen
12. Plan on arriving to the hospital around 2 hours prior to your scheduled procedure
13. If you wish to see a member of the clergy prior to your surgery make sure you let your nurse know as they will coordinate it for you
14. It’s best to not wear any makeup, nail polish if possible
15. If you feel sick, develop a cold or a fever prior to your surgery make sure you contact your doctor as soon as possible
