Facial Line Filling

About the Procedure

Over time, due to sun exposure heredity and lifestyle, visible signs of aging can occur. The earliest signs of aging result in a loss of facial fullness and the onset of wrinkles. Facial lines can be softened and volume can be restored non-surgically with injectable fillers. These fillers can plump thin lips, soften facial creases and improve the appearance of scars. Fillers can not reverse the aging process. If you wish to change the way your face looks, a face lift or brow lift may be needed. Facial fillers cannot achieve the same results, but they may help delay the need for a future facelift. To restore facial contours or reduce the appearance of lines and creases, facial line fillers may be the answer.

What to Know Before the Procedure

Treatments are usually done in a doctor’s office or clinic by technicians who are trained in these types of procedures. The most common problem areas for facial filler treatment include:
  • Crows feet and wrinkles around the eyes
  • Deep laugh lines
  • Forehead lines and wrinkles
  • Frown lines and creases
  • Smokers wrinkles and lip wrinkles
In some cases, a local anesthetic is applied to the treatment area before the procedure. The filler is delivered via a syringe, which is injected carefully into the dermal layer of the skin. With deeper lines a thicker facial filler is used, smoothing out the skin more effectively. These fillers are also used for larger creases and sagging skin.

What to Know After the Procedure

Recovery time is minimal for most facial filling treatments. Many patients can resume a normal daily life immediately after a facial filler treatment. There may be mild side effects like redness, swelling or bruising at the site of injection, which usually diminishes within a day or two. Patients should not touch the treated area for several days in order to minimize the risk of infection. Some patients may need a mild prescription painkiller. However, most people don't need prescription strength medicines. The filler procedure is non-surgical and does not result in any downtime. Risks are minimal as facial fillers are very safe with a low incidence of side effects.

If you Need to Travel Outside of your Local Hospital

The decision between having a facial line filling done domestically or internationally should come down to preference, overall cost, and skill of the doctor performing the procedure. When researching doctors be sure to ask for before-and-after pictures of their previous patients so that you can assess their work. When comparing costs also consider whether additional cosmetic surgery procedures are desired along with the facial line filling.
